Pope Francis Supports Human Rights-Based Data-Based Systems (HRBDS) and the Establishment of IDA at the UN

In his message for this year’s World Day of Peace “Artificial Intelligence and Peace”[1], Pope Francis calls for a legally binding global UN treaty based on human rights. “I urge the global community of nations to work together in order to adopt a binding international treaty that regulates the development and use of artificial intelligence in its many forms.”[2] Human rights-based data-based systems (HRBDS) want to ensure that human dignity and human rights are respected globally not only offline but also online – and in the digital sphere and the domain of DS.

Pope Francis calls also for an institution enforcing this global regulation. An International Data-Based Systems Agency (IDA) urgently needs to be established at the UN as a global platform for technical cooperation in the field of DS, fostering human rights, sustainability, safety, security, and peaceful uses of DS as well as a global supervisory and monitoring institution and regulatory authority in the area of DS responsible for access to market approval.
